Jagjit Singh Dallewal, coordinator of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political), was discharged late Friday (November 29) evening from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Ludhiana.
Dallewal, who had been admitted to the emergency ward, had initially been brought to the hospital due to health concerns and will now return to the Khanauri border to continue his hunger strike.
A delegation of farmers, led by Sarwan Singh Pandher, coordinator of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), arrived at DMCH around 7:45 pm. By 8 pm, Dallewal was escorted out of the hospital.
Upon leaving the hospital, Dallewal addressed the farmers, requesting them not to garland him and reaffirmed his commitment to continuing his hunger strike at the Khanauri border, The Indian Express reported.
Dallewal had been forcibly removed from the Khanauri border by Punjab Police on November 26, just before his planned hunger strike. While Dallewal began his protest in the hospital, another farmer leader, Sukhjit Singh Hardojhande, launched a parallel hunger strike at the border.
The ongoing hunger strike, now in its fourth day, aims to pressure the central government into addressing farmers' demands, including a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP). Farmers have threatened to march to Delhi on foot on December 6 if their demands are not met.
Farmers, under the banners of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and SKM (non-political), have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders since February 13, after multi-layer barricades were erected by Haryana to prevent their march to Delhi. The demand for MSP as a legal right remains their primary issue.
