Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday (August 6) made history by becoming the first female Indian wrestler to advance to an Olympic final at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She achieved the milestone by defeating Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman with a score of 5-0 in the semi-final. Vinesh is now set to compete for the gold medal against Sarah Hildebrandt from the USA in the final match, scheduled for late night on Wednesday, August 7.

However, after Vinesh Phogat's historic victory, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut made an unexpected remark on the Indian wrestler. On her Instagram stories, she shared a photo of Vinesh and attributed her success to the 'great leader' Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Fingers crossed for India's first Gold Medal...Vinesh Phogat at one point took parts in protests where she raised the slogans of "Modi teri kabr khudegi". Yet she was given the opportunity to represent the nation and best of the training, coaches, and facilities. Beauty of democracy and a great leader, " wrote the actor-politician.

The 29-year-old Phogat was a leading figure in the protests against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh last year. Singh made national headlines when top wrestlers accused him of sexually harassing female athletes.

On May 10, the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi, ordered framing of charges against former WFI chief, in the case wherein allegations of sexual harassment were levelled against him by six women wrestlers.

The court framed charges against the BJP leader in the case of sexual harassment of five female wrestlers, while acquitting Bhushan of the charges levelled by the sixth wrestler.

Due to the serious charges of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan, the BJP decided to nominate his son for the Kaiserganj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh for the general elections, which concluded in June this year.
