India reported seven COVID-19-related deaths and 564 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday (June 5).
Of the seven fatalities, three were reported from Maharashtra, and two each from Delhi and Karnataka.
The country’s total number of active cases has now risen to nearly 5,000. Kerala continues to lead with the highest number of active infections at 1,487, followed by Delhi with 562 and Maharashtra with 526
Other states showing a noticeable rise in cases include West Bengal (538), Gujarat (508), Karnataka (436), Uttar Pradesh (198), and Rajasthan (103). Karnataka alone recorded 112 new infections over the past 24 hours.
Himachal Pradesh reported its first COVID-19 case of the season when an 82-year-old woman tested positive at the Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College in Nahan, Sirmour district. The patient, who had pre-existing age-related ailments, was admitted with COVID-like symptoms.
In Madhya Pradesh, seven new cases were detected in Indore district, raising the active case count there to 17.
The new cases include three women and four men, three of whom had recent travel histories to Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Kerala. None of the patients are showing severe symptoms and are currently recovering in home isolation. Indore has recorded 33 COVID-19 cases, including one fatality — a 74-year-old woman.
