The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has strongly rejected the draft National Policy Framework on Agriculture Marketing (NPFAM) and announced a series of protests to counter the central government’s policies.
During its Mahapanchayat in Moga on Thursday (January 9), SKM called for unity among all farmers’ unions, especially in Punjab, to consolidate efforts on a single platform and intensify their struggle.
Central to their fight are demands for a legal guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, debt waivers, and the fulfilment of promises made in the Delhi Agreement.
The Morcha announced two significant protest actions: a tractor march across Punjab on Republic Day (January 26) and the symbolic burning of the NPFAM draft on January 13 to express their discontent.
Farmers began arriving at Moga’s grain market early in the day, traveling in tractor-trolleys, buses, cars, and other vehicles. The overwhelming participation forced organizers to expand the venue to accommodate the large crowd.
The Mahapanchayat unanimously passed a resolution rejecting the NPFAM, labelling it a dangerous iteration of the repealed three farm laws. It also adopted a Unity Resolution, emphasizing the importance of a coordinated farmers’ movement.
To further this agenda, a six-member delegation from SKM, along with a 101-member farmers’ jatha, will visit the Khanauri border on January 10 to meet with the leadership of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha and the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political).
Their objective is to urge these groups to join a united platform and invite them to a joint meeting in Patiala on January 15.

Senior SKM leader Prem Singh Bhanghu told The New Indian Express, "The SKM today in its rally at Moga has given a clarion call to all the farmer forms/unions across the country to come on one platform and be united to launch a united fight against the pro-corporate and anti farmer policies of the union government.”
“A six-member committee of the SKM will go to the Khanauri border tomorrow along with 101 farmers jatha (gropu) to give the message of unity to these both forms Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political),’’ he added.
The event saw passionate speeches from key SKM leaders, including Balbir Singh Rajewal, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Rakesh Tikait, Harmeet Singh Kadiyan, Dr. Darshanpal, Raminder Singh Patiala, P. Krishnaprasad, and others.
SKM leaders condemned the Union government’s policies and accused it of pursuing a corporate-driven agenda under the influence of the WTO, which they said undermines the federal structure of the Constitution and attacks farmers’ livelihoods.
They criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for their indifference to farmers’ issues and for the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a fast unto death.
The Morcha warned that the government would be held fully responsible if Dallewal’s health worsens further and demanded immediate talks to address the concerns of the protesting organizations
.
The Mahapanchayat urged state governments to uphold federal principles by rejecting the NPFAM draft through resolutions in their legislative assemblies.
SKM welcomed the statement of the Punjab Chief Minister opposing the draft and called on the state government to convene a special session of the Vidhan Sabha to pass a formal resolution against it.
Leaders reaffirmed their commitment to building a united and determined farmers’ movement to counter the central government’s anti-farmer policies.
