Major cities in America witnessed massive anti-war demonstrations condemning Israel’s attack on Gaza, on Monday (April 15), which led to temporary shutting down of airports and disruption of traffic.
Pro-Palestine protests took place in Chicago, California, New York, San Francisco and others cities, calling for cease-fire in Gaza.
In Chicago, protesters linked arms and blocked lanes of Interstate 190 leading into O'Hare International Airport, one of the largest airports in the United States (US), at around 7 am in a demonstration, which was part of a global economic blockade to free Palestine. Many travellers who were stuck in standstill traffic, left their cars and walked the final leg to the airport along the freeway, trailing their luggage behind them.
In New York, hundreds of anti-Israeli protesters flocked to Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge, with traffic coming to a halt on its Manhattan-bound side. Protesters had lit flares and were chanting pro-Palestinian slogans, some of them being arrested by the police.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, the protests led to the disruption of two major highways, the southbound 101 across the Golden Gate Bridge and the northbound 880 in nearby Oakland during morning rush hour. Reportedly 40 people were arrested later on.
In Seattle, demonstrators, holding banners and waving Palestinian flags, closed the main road to Seattle-Tacoma international airport
The Israeli offensive has killed more than 33,700 Palestinians, according to the Gaza health ministry with women and children make up two-thirds of the dead.
