Farmers unions on Sunday (June 9) staged an Insaaf (Justice) march in Punjab's Mohali, demanding justice for the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable Kulwinder Kaur, who allegedly slapped Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MP elect Kangana Ranaut at Chandigarh Airport on Thursday.
The farmers unions including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, took a march from Gurdwara Amb Sahib to the senior superintendent of police's office in Mohali.
In a memorandum submitted to SSP Dr Sandeep Garg, the farmers' collective demanded that an enquiry into the incident must be conducted, taking accounts of all the sequence of events that led the incident.
The farmers also demanded that a case should be registered against Kangana Ranaut for defaming Punjab in the name of terrorism.
Children and ladies were also spotted in the march along with farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal, Sarwan Singh Pandher, Gurinder Singh Bhangu, and Manjeet Singh Rai.
Earlier on Friday, SKM (Non-Political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has already informed the media that an "Insaaf march" to the SSP’s office will be taken out in Mohali on June 9 "to demand that no injustice be done in this case with the constable".
During the briefing, Dallewal said, "The main issue which we raised is that there should be no injustice to the constable. We have been assured that investigations are being held impartially,"
The farmers demand that action should be taken against Ranaut first, for her allegedly reprehensive twitter post, where she took a jibe at the protesting women during farmers’ protest against three farm acts.
During the farmers' protest at the borders of Delhi, Kangana Ranaut posted a tweet, using the picture of an old woman, one Mohinder Kaur as a “dadi of Shaheen Bagh of Delhi” and reportedly wrote that “such women” go to protests for Rs 100. Ranaut, however deleted the post later.
Kulwinder Kaur, who allegedly slapped Mandi BJP MP, has been suspended and an FIR was lodged against her by the Mohali Police under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint). Both are bailable offences.
