Farmer protests against Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidates across the state of Punjab, has led to the death of a farmer in Sehra village of Patiala.
Reportedly, the death resulted out of a scuffle when a group of farmers were protesting against the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate, Preneet Kaur.
Kaur, the wife of former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, joined BJP on March 14 and has been at the receiving end of farmers' ire.
During the scuffle, two other farmers got injured. The deceased farmer is identified as Surinderpal Singh. The dead body has been transported to a government hospital in Rajpura.
A video from Sehra village in Patiala, has surfaced on the social media, which shows how the farmers began shouting slogans and engaging in pushing and shoving.
The situation is tense in Patiala as the farmers have called for intensifying the movement.
Farmers agitations against BJP candidates has been going on for some time now in the state. The farmers argue that as the Modi government did not allow them to enter Delhi with their demands, similarly they won't allow BJP candidates to campaign the Punjab. Farmers unions have accused the BJP govt of coming up with trimmed versions of the three repealed agri-marketing laws enforce those indirectly.

On April 14, farmers had showed black flags to various BJP leaders who were attending ‘booth sammelan’ in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, in Patiala district’s Samana town, Dhudike village of Moga and Malerkotla town, reported TheCrossbill.
The farmers raised slogans against BJP leaders. There were reports of minor clashes between the farmers and the police personnel and detention of farmers into preventive custody.
Following detention, larger group of farmers assembled outside the police stations demanding the release of their peers. The farmers were later released from custody in all the places.
A group of farmers on April 27, protested against the BJP's Ambala nominee Banto Kataria during her Lok Sabha polls campaign in Naggal village. Another incidence of dissent was reported on the same day in Gurdaspur, where the farmers protested against BJP candidate Dinesh Babbu.
The farmers under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, staged a 'Delhi Chalo' march for pressing their demands, but were stopped by security forces on February 13 at the Shambhu and the Khanauri border. Many farmers are camping at the site ever since.
