A controversy surrounding a school annual function held earlier this year in Maharashtra's Jalna district has led to criminal proceedings against its principal and two teachers after videos of the event resurfaced on social media, triggering allegations that students had performed to a Pakistani song.
According to PTI, Partur police on Thursday (June 18) registered a case against Kids World English School principal Wazhiyoddin Siddiqui and two members of the staff under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The charges include acts endangering India's sovereignty, unity and integrity, promoting enmity between groups, spreading misinformation affecting national integration and circulating content likely to create public alarm.
The videos in question relate to the school's annual programme conducted in March 2025. Social media posts circulating recently alleged that the background music used during one of the performances was Pakistani in origin and further claimed that an image of Pakistani extremist Mumtaz Qadri had been displayed during the event.
The issue has also drawn political attention, with local BJP MLA Babanrao Lonikar demanding stringent action against the management of the institution and calling for the cancellation of the school's recognition.
Responding to the allegations, principal Siddiqui denied the claims and maintained that the music used during the programme had no Pakistani connection.
“The image shown during the performance was of an actor from Ertugrul Ghazi. Some persons tampered with the visuals and circulated misleading content on social media,” he told reporters.
He further contended that the audio played during the event had been sourced from the popular Turkish television series Ertugrul Ghazi rather than from a Pakistani song.
The case comes amid heightened scrutiny of content circulated on social media and allegations that manipulated visuals may have contributed to the controversy surrounding the school's cultural programme.
