Panjab University has recorded a significant leap in global academic recognition, with 28 of its faculty members making it to the latest Stanford–Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% scientists for 2025.
In addition, 30 faculty members have secured a place in the career-wise category, which evaluates overall research impact across their academic journey. The single-year ranks, based on 2024 research and publication data, focus on annual performance, while the career-wise ranks reflect long-term scholarly influence.
This year’s achievement marks a sharp rise from the previous year, with the university improving by 13 positions in the single-year category — from 35 to 48 — and by 17 in the career category — from 11 to 28.
The Stanford–Elsevier database, which uses a composite citation score to assess both recent and career-long contributions, highlights Panjab University’s growth in high-quality research, interdisciplinary collaborations, and global visibility.
Congratulating the faculty, Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig said that the distinguished PU scholars named in the two categories represent a wide cross-section of departments and institutes, including the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Botany, Physics, UICET, UIET, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Biophysics.
“Our sustained focus on high-quality, impactful research is now showing up in global bibliometric and ranking indicators, and this latest recognition by the Stanford–Elsevier team is an important external validation,” she told The Indian Express.
Prof Vig further noted that PU’s academic excellence has been consistently reaffirmed over the past two years, with steady improvements in international rankings.
The university now figures in the 601–800 band of the Times Higher Education World Rankings and the 901–950 range in the QS World University Rankings 2025.
