With the NEET-UG re-test approaching, the Indian Air Force has undertaken a large-scale operation to transport question papers across the country, deploying its Mi-17 helicopters to ensure secure and timely delivery to designated centres.
Over the past few days, the IAF has conducted more than 200 sorties to ferry sealed question paper packets to 18 zonal hubs. From these locations, the papers will be dispatched to examination centres under strict security arrangements, according to a report by The Times of India.
“The use of IAF aircraft is aimed at guaranteeing foolproof, time-bound delivery,” TOI quoted an official as saying.
The airlifting exercise began on June 16 and continued through June 17.
According to The Hindu, question papers reached several northern states on Tuesday, while authorities simultaneously carried out dry runs at selected locations in southern India to assess logistical and security preparedness.
Security agencies have been deployed at every stage of the distribution process. Personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) are overseeing the movement of the papers, with the Ministries of Defence and Home Affairs, the Postal Department and state governments coordinating under a framework supervised by the Ministry of Education.
The elaborate arrangements come in the wake of the cancellation of the original NEET-UG examination last month following widespread allegations of question paper leaks.
The controversy triggered protests across the country and intensified demands for the resignation of the Union education minister.
As part of efforts to prevent a repeat of the scandal, the Union government had earlier imposed a temporary restriction on access to the Telegram messaging platform ahead of the June 21 re-test, a measure announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The re-examination, scheduled for June 21, is being conducted under heightened security amid attempts by authorities to restore confidence in one of the country's most important entrance examinations.
