Delhi University (DU) has increased fees for students enrolling in first-year undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs, as well as for foreign students seeking admission for the 2024-2025 academic session.

The revised fee structure for the academic year starting in August was approved by Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh in June. Under this new structure, the course fee for first-year B.Tech students has increased by 3.70%, rising from Rs 2.16 lakh to Rs 2.24 lakh.

A senior official at the Faculty of Technology informed news agency PTI that, “the hike has been affected only for the first year students currently in accordance with university guidelines.”

The university has increased several components of the fee structure, including tuition fees, the students' welfare fund, development fees, facilities and services charges, and the economically weaker section support fund. Additionally, the contribution to the DU Students' Union (DUSU) has been removed from the department's fee structure.

The DUSU contribution has been removed from the fee structure for LLB and MBA programs. For other undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the contribution has been increased from Rs 20 to Rs 40.

Fees for the five-year Integrated Law Programmes have been increased by 5%, rising from Rs 1.90 lakh to Rs 1.99 lakh. For PhD courses, the revision of the fee structure has led to a 60.22% increase in overall fees, with scholars now required to pay Rs 7,130 for the upcoming session, up from the previous fee of Rs 4,450.

The fee for foreign students seeking admission to various courses at the university has also been increased, according to the DU Dean of Admissions, who informed PTI.

However, foreign nationals applying for the MA in Hindu Studies at DU will benefit from a reduced course fee. For students from SAARC countries, the fee has been cut from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 50,000, while for students from non-SAARC countries, it has been lowered from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 1 lakh.

Additionally, Tibetan applicants will be exempt from paying registration fees as foreign students.
