A 57-year-old government employee has been arrested on charges of raping a 10-year-old Dalit girl and committing bestiality in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr, news agency PTI reported.
The incident, which took place at the girl's home on Monday (August 12). Officials have confirmed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the heinous crime. The accused official has been suspended, and the state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 8.25 lakh for the girl's family.
The survivor’s family reported that the accused man, who frequently visited the village for official duties, entered their home when he noticed the girl playing in the courtyard with a neighbour’s child and no adults around.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar reported that Gajendra Singh, an Agriculture Development Officer, is accused of assaulting his daughter and mistreating a goat.
"Singh entered the house of the girl around 5 pm on Monday. The girl's family was known to him. He raped the girl and then had unnatural sex with a goat that was tied nearby. A boy captured the crime on his phone. Singh has been arrested. Since he is a government official, he has also been suspended and a departmental inquiry is being conducted," Kumar told NDTV.
Singh has been charged under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act, the POCSO Act, section 65 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The SSP also noted that the entire incident was captured on video by a child who was nearby.
