The tragic murder of a 22-year-old Dalit woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya has ignited a political storm, with Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi fiercely criticizing the BJP government.

The victim, who had been missing for three days, was found dead in a desolate canal near her village, with her family alleging murder and accusing the police of inaction, news agency PTI reported.

According to the family, the woman's body bore deep wounds, multiple fractures, and had been found unclothed with her eyes allegedly missing. Her limbs were also tied with ropes. The shocking incident has sparked widespread condemnation.

Rahul Gandhi Slams BJP’s Anti-Dalit Stance

Expressing grief and outrage, Rahul Gandhi took to social media, calling the incident “heartbreaking and shameful.” He held the administration responsible for failing to act despite the family’s repeated pleas for help.

"The inhumanity and brutal murder of a Dalit girl in Ayodhya is heartbreaking and very shameful. If the administration had paid heed to the cry for help of the girl's family that had been echoing for three days, perhaps her life could have been saved," he wrote in Hindi on X.

Lambasting the BJP, he accused the party of fostering an environment where crimes against Dalits continue to rise unchecked.

"Another daughter's life has ended due to this heinous crime. For how long and how many families will have to cry and suffer like this? The anti-Bahujan BJP rule, especially in Uttar Pradesh, is resulting in rising the heinous atrocities, injustices and murders of Dalits," he added.

He further demanded immediate action, urging the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure the strictest punishment for the perpetrators and disciplinary action against negligent police officers.

"And please, do not harass the victim’s family as is often the case," he cautioned.

Priyanka Gandhi echoed similar sentiments, calling the incident "barbaric." She slammed the state government for its failure to protect marginalized communities.

"The kind of barbarism meted out to a Dalit girl who had gone to listen to the Bhagwat Katha in Ayodhya would send shivers down the spine of any human being. Such cruel incidents shame all of humanity," she said.

Accusing the BJP of fostering lawlessness, she remarked, "In BJP's Jungle Raj, no one is there to listen to the cries of Dalits, tribals, backward and poor. The UP government has become synonymous with atrocities on Dalits."

She demanded immediate and stringent action against both the culprits and the police officers responsible for negligence.

Police Investigation Underway

According to Circle Officer Ashutosh Tiwari, police registered a missing report on Friday after receiving a complaint from the family. The body was later discovered by the victim’s brother-in-law, just 500 meters from their village, reported PTI.

The police have launched an investigation, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.

As political leaders and activists raise their voices, the case has once again highlighted the alarming state of Dalit safety and police inaction in Uttar Pradesh. The nation now watches closely, demanding justice for the victim and accountability from the authorities.
