Gujarat Congress Working President and Vadgam MLA Jignesh Mevani has called for the immediate termination of Mahisagar's District Collector, Neha Kumari, from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) for allegedly making anti-Dalit and anti-Adivasi remarks during an October Taluka Swagat programme.

Mevani demanded that the state government should initiate disciplinary proceedings against Kumari, emphasizing that her continued tenure as a senior bureaucrat violates both ethical and legal standards set by the Service Manual of India.

He argued that her presence in office acts as a deterrent, discouraging marginalized communities from seeking help from the bureaucracy.

On Saturday (November 9), Mevani sent a letter to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Chief Secretary, urging them to immediately remove Kumari from the IAS and file charges against her under the Atrocities Act.

In the letter, Mevani stated, “I request you to initiate proceedings for termination of Ms Neha Kumari from her services under the IAS as well as recommend the filing of necessary charges against her under the Atrocities Act and ensure her immediate arrest, in order to ensure that members of the Dalit and Tribal communities do not continue to be insulted and humiliated by such irresponsible and callous bureaucrats in India,” reported The Indian Express.

Mevani further criticized Kumari’s attitude, claiming she was unfit to fulfil her responsibilities as a District Collector, especially given her position as Chairperson of the District Vigilance Committee, which oversees the implementation of the Atrocities Act.

He pointed out that Kumari’s actions would undermine the effectiveness of programs aimed at protecting and supporting Dalits and Tribals.

He also noted that Kumari’s continued presence in office “diminishes the guiding principles and guarantees of our Constitution” and referred to a press conference she held on October 29, during which she accused Mevani of having casteist and political motives for raising concerns about her conduct.
