In a shocking incident, a Dalit youth working at a private blood bank in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, was allegedly tortured and killed by the owner over accusations of stealing cigarette packets.
The victim, identified as Shashikant Mallikarjun Natikar (25), was a resident of Pragati Colony in Kalaburagi.
The police have registered an FIR against the blood bank owner, Chandrashekhar Mallinath Patil, and four others. The main accused, Patil, is currently absconding, reported Deccan Herald.
Shashikant was employed at the blood bank near Basaveshwara Hospital.
According to the complaint filed by his father, Mallikarjun Natikar, the owner accused Shashikant of stealing cigarette packets worth Rs 1.40 lakh and demanded that he repay the amount.
When Shashikant denied the allegations, Patil allegedly summoned his associates and brutally assaulted him.
The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the accused, while the incident has sparked outrage in the local community.
