The campaign in Bihar for the nationwide rally scheduled to be held in New Delhi on March 24 gathered momentum as the CPI(M)’s statewide jatha reached Darbhanga district on March 12, where a series of public meetings were organised to mobilise support for the demonstration.

The CPI(M) had announced a large rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on March 24, marking an intensified phase of its opposition to the BJP-led Union government. After a key meeting of the Polit Bureau on February 27, the party also called for nationwide mobilisation, alleging that the policies of the central government represent a systematic attack on the country’s working class, peasantry and national sovereignty.

Three public meetings were held in Kansi, Birniya and Paghari villages, drawing significant participation from local residents and party supporters.

The gatherings were particularly symbolic as Kansi and Birniya are the native villages of two veteran CPI(M) leaders who have passed away — Vijay Kant Thakur and Hriday Narayan Yadav — both of whom had played important roles in building the party in the region.

Hundreds of people attended the meetings, which focused on the political and economic issues that the party says have compelled it to organise the March 24 rally in the national capital.

The meetings were addressed by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Dr Ashok Dhawale, State Secretary Lalan Choudhari, State Secretariat member Shyam Bharati and Darbhanga District Secretary Avinash Thakur.

Addressing the gatherings, Dr Ashok Dhawale sharply criticised the policies of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. He alleged that the regime’s policies, both in foreign and domestic spheres, were harming the country’s interests and undermining the livelihoods of the people.

Dr Dhawale charged that the servile surrender of the Modi-led RSS-BJP regime to the Trump-Netanyahu duo abroad, and to the Adani-Ambani duo at home, has destroyed the interests of the country and its people. He said that opposing these policies and raising the issues affecting workers, farmers and common citizens is the central focus of the March 24 Delhi Rally.

The CPI(M) leaders also appealed to people across the state to join the rally in large numbers to voice their concerns over rising prices, unemployment and policies favouring big corporate interests.

Earlier in the day, a press conference was organised in Darbhanga town, which was attended by party leaders and local media representatives. During the interaction with journalists, the leaders elaborated on the objectives and key issues to be raised in the March 24 rally in New Delhi and called upon democratic forces to extend support to the mobilisation.
