The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly opposed the recent decision of the Rajasthan government to abolish nine districts and three administrative divisions in the state.

Protests were organized in Sikar, Anupgarh, Neem Ka Thana, Losal, and other locations, condemning the decision as anti-people and detrimental to development.

The CPI(M) labelled this move a betrayal of the aspirations and sentiments of the affected populace and warned that it would not be tolerated by the common people.

The party demanded the immediate reversal of this decision by the Bhajan Lal-led government and warned of intensified public protests if the demands were not met.

Newly elected CPI(M) State Secretary Kishan Pareek on Sunday (December 29) criticized the Rajasthan government’s decision to dissolve nine districts and three divisions, calling it an assault on the principles of decentralization.

“Yesterday, the BJP government of Rajasthan, through its cabinet decision, committed a grave injustice and betrayed the people of the state,” Pareek said.

“The CPI(M) strongly condemns this decision and urges the government to reconsider this anti-people move. If the government fails to reverse its stance, the working class of Rajasthan will mobilize and intensify massive protests against this decentralization move,” he added.

In a cabinet meeting held on Saturday, the government decided to abolish the districts of Dudu, Kekri, Shahpura, Neem Ka Thana, Gangapur City, Jaipur Rural, Jodhpur Rural, Anupgarh, and Sanchore.

Additionally, the divisions of Banswara, Sikar, and Pali were dissolved.

This decision sparked widespread criticism from various quarters, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

“The decision of the BJP government to cancel nine out of the new districts created by our government is an example of indiscretion and mere political vengeance," PTI quoted Gehlot as saying.

Gehlot further elaborated on the extensive planning that went into creating new districts during his tenure, including comprehensive studies, the establishment of new sub-tehsils, and structural adjustments over five years.

He criticized the current government for abandoning this framework, describing the move as a missed opportunity for improving governance in Rajasthan.
