The All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) has demanded strong action against Prajwal Revanna, sitting MP from Hassan in Karnataka and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) supported Lok Sabha candidate, for serious accusations of sexual harassment.
Prajwal, grandson of Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) chief and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has reportedly fled the country as the Karnataka government decided to form a special investigation team (SIT) in connection to enquire into the serious accusations of sexual harassment that he faces.
As per reports, thousands of purported videos, allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna started going viral on social media a day after he voted on April 26 in Phase 2 of the elections.
In a press release, AIDWA said “this is in tune with the support that other sexual offenders in their Party have received from them. It is also extremely disturbing that the National Commission for Women has not intervened in this matter. The mainstream media has also been quite muted”.
The women’s organisation noted that sexual offenders continue to occupy positions of power and are being given tickets to contest by major political parties, adding that this was “a great blow to the struggle for women's right to security.”

The Congress has also attacked the PM and the BJP, accusing them of fielding Prajwal Revanna.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi criticised the Union government for allowing Prajwal to flee to a foreign country.
At an election rally in Karnataka’s Sedam on Monday Mrs Gandhi said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks about Mangalasutra and bangles. But he remained silent when there were incidents of sexual harassment against Olympic players. Now, Modi and (Union Home Minister Amit) Shah should respond to the people as they had campaigned in favour of the candidate who has made thousands of sexual assaults on women. Though he has fled the country, Modi is unaware of him (Prajwal). Therefore, the women should question Modi about it until the accused is returned to India,” quoted Deccan Herald.
Mahila Congress Committee president Alka Lamba urged the PM to engage with the German government to apprehend Prajwal and called for the immediate arrest of JDS MLA and former minister H.D. Revanna, the father of the accused Prajwal, since he has been named as a co-accused in the sexual harassment case.
She appealed the PM to instruct all immigration points to prevent H.D. Revanna, from fleeing the country as his son managed to do.
