The grand consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22 and attended by notable political and celebrity figures, cost Rs 113 crore, according to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, The Times of India reported.
In a recent meeting, the trust revealed that Rs 1,800 crore has been spent on the temple's construction so far. It is anticipated that an additional Rs 70 crore will be required over the next two phases, with completion expected by the end of the year.
The board of trustees reviewed the annual accounts for the financial year 2023-24. The trust plans to file its income tax return this September.
According to the TOI, over the past four years, devotees have donated approximately 20 kg of gold and 13 quintals of silver to the Ram temple.
Champat Rai, the general secretary of the trust, projected that the total expenditure between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, will be Rs 850 crore.
For the financial year 2023-24, the trust reported a total expenditure of Rs 676 crore and an income of Rs 363.34 crore. This income included Rs 204 crore from bank interest and Rs 58 crore from contributions.
The inauguration of the Ram Mandir played a crucial role in Narendra Modi’s campaign strategy during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) aimed to capitalize on its Hindu nationalist credentials and aggressively sought votes by invoking Ram in its election campaigns.
However, the anticipated electoral advantage did not materialize. On the day of the vote count, the most notable development was the surprising comeback by the Samajwadi Party (SP), part of the INDIA Bloc with Congress, in Uttar Pradesh. In Faizabad, SP candidate Awadhesh Prasad won by a margin of 54,567 votes.
Meanwhile, on June 24, Acharya Satyendra Das, the head priest of the Ram Mandir, reported roof leakage issues in the partially constructed temple, less than six months after the inauguration ceremony.
