Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s health is improving while he is being treated for a chest infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital, the party said on Tuesday (Tuesday 20).
Yechury was admitted to the AIIMS in Delhi on Monday after he complained of a high fever. He was admitted to the hospital's emergency department in the evening due to pneumonia and was subsequently moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“Comrade Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi last evening (August 19) due to a chest infection. He is undergoing treatment and his condition is improving,” the CPI(M) said in a statement.
The Marxist leader had recently undergone surgery for cataract.
