Shifting the election discourse towards livelihood concerns and governance issues, the CPI(M)-led Left Front on Saturday (April 4) unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, placing emphasis on employment generation, industrial revival and public welfare measures rather than identity-based politics.

The 15-page manifesto was released at Muzaffar Ahmad Bhawan in Kolkata in the presence of Left Front chairman Biman Basu, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sridip Bhattacharya and leaders of constituent Left Front parties.

The document outlines the alliance’s roadmap focused on labour rights, economic development, women’s safety and an administration free from corruption.

The manifesto promises large-scale employment opportunities alongside a renewed push for heavy and medium industries across the state.

Among the key commitments are providing one permanent job in every family, ensuring at least two employment calls for every registered unemployed youth and introducing a 100-day employment guarantee scheme for urban poor residents. For rural Bengal, the Front has pledged 200 days of guaranteed work.

The Left Front has also promised to fill all vacant posts in government departments within the next five years and conduct transparent annual recruitment through the Public Service Commission, School Service Commission and College Service Commission. Industrial expansion forms a major pillar of the document, including initiatives for heavy and medium-scale industrialisation and the establishment of new software and hardware parks.

In the social welfare sector, the manifesto proposes free electricity up to 100 units and a 50 per cent subsidy on electricity consumption up to 200 units. Addressing safety concerns, the Front announced the formation of an ‘Abhoya Bahini (force)’ under the state police dedicated to women’s safety and security.

The manifesto also highlights demands for justice for the R G Kar victims and nine-year-old Tamanna, who was killed in a bomb blast during Trinamool Congress victory celebrations after the by-polls in Kaliaganj in Nadia district.

Through these proposals, the Left Front seeks to project an alternative political agenda centred on employment, social justice and democratic governance in West Bengal.
