Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Wednesday (June 5) to submit his resignation and recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.

The President accepted the resignation and requested PM Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new Government assumes office.

According to NDTV, Modi is all set to oath for a third time on Saturday, and become only the second Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to assume the office on three straight terms.

The meeting between PM Modi and the President came after Wednesday's Cabinet meeting held in New Delhi. The meeting chaired by Modi, recommended the dissolution of the Cabinet whose term ends on June 16.

With the BJP being well below the majority mark of 272, 32 seats less than required for a single-party government, the support of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies have become crucial for the BJP to form the next government.

After the counting of votes of 2024 Lok Sabha elections took place yesterday, the result showed that the BJP has won 240 seats, while the Congress got 99.

However, the most talked about story on the day of counting was the remarkable turnaround for the Samajwadi Party (SP), the part of INDIA Bloc with the Congress in UP.

The SP alone emerged as the largest party in the state winning 37 seats out of the total 80 Lok Sabha seats. Even in Ayodhya which comes under the Faizabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP’s sitting MP was defeated after a decade by SP’s Dalit leader Awadhesh Prasad.
