In Uttar Pradesh, over 1.3 million government employees face the risk of not receiving their salaries if they fail to adhere to a new directive from the Yogi Adityanath administration.
The order requires employees to declare their movable and immovable assets on the Manav Sampada government portal by August 31. Failure to comply will result in withheld salaries for the month and could also impact their chances for promotions, according to the latest mandate.
The initial deadline for asset declarations set by the order issued in August of last year was December 31. This deadline was subsequently extended several times—first to June 30 and then to July 31—yet compliance remains low, with only 26 percent of employees having submitted their asset details.
The deadline has now been moved to August 31. Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 1,788,429 government employees, but only about 26 percent have provided their property details, leaving over 1.3 million employees who still need to disclose their assets.
Although the deadline has been extended several times before, the latest directive serves as a final ultimatum for employees who have yet to submit their asset details.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh has clearly stated that only employees who provide their property information by August 31 will receive their salary for the month. Those who fail to comply will not be paid.
The state government has defended the measure by stating that it "promotes transparency and accountability."
The opposition has criticized the move, arguing that the repeated deadline extensions indicate the state government's failure to effectively implement the order.
All officers and employees are required to disclose their movable and immovable property details. Principal Secretary of the Personnel Department, M Devraj, has forwarded the Chief Secretary’s order to all Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries, as well as Department and Office Heads. According to the order, employees who do not provide these details will be ineligible for promotions.
