The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued directives to its departments and zonal heads to launch a comprehensive drive aimed at identifying and verifying illegal Bangladeshi migrants in municipal schools and among those registered for birth certificates.
The order, dated December 18, also calls for action to remove encroachments linked to such individuals.
This decision follows a meeting on December 12 with the Principal Secretary (Home) of the Delhi government.
The MCD Commissioner was represented at the meeting by the Additional Commissioner (HQ) and Deputy Commissioner (HQ). Zonal authorities have been instructed to implement measures to address the presence of illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
The Education Department has been tasked with conducting verification during school admissions and a thorough review of currently enrolled students to identify potential illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
“Education Department to take appropriate preventive measures to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrants while giving admission in municipal schools. It is also requested that proper identification and verification drives may be undertaken to identify illegal Bangladeshi migrant children in schools,” the order stated.
"Public Health Department is requested to take all precautionary preventive measures while doing Birth Registrations and ensuring Birth Certificates and shall ensure that no illegal Bangladeshi migrants are issued birth certificates. In addition to this, they will also undertake identification/verification drive to identify the registrants of Birth Certificate issued to illegal Bangladeshi Migrants,” MCD added.
Zonal authorities are required to verify previously issued birth certificates to detect any irregularities.
To ensure accountability, zonal heads must submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) to the Deputy Commissioner (HQ) every Friday.
Earlier this month, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena had directed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to initiate a campaign against illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Delhi.
Following these instructions, the Delhi Police has intensified its efforts, conducting drives across slums, footpaths, and unauthorized colonies in the city.
