The Union government has revised its guidelines on power exports, permitting Adani Power to redirect its electricity intended for Bangladesh to the domestic market due to the ongoing turmoil in the country, Reuters reported.
The amendment is seen as a safeguard for the politically influential conglomerate, shielding it from the political instability currently affecting Bangladesh.
In 2018, the Narendra Modi government established guidelines for generators that exclusively supply power to neighbouring countries. Currently, Adani Power's 1,600-megawatt power plant in Jharkhand’s Godda district is the sole facility bound by contract to deliver all its electricity to a foreign nation, specifically Bangladesh.
On August 12, the Union power ministry issued a memo amending the guidelines to allow the government to “permit connection of such generating station to the Indian grid to facilitate sale of power within India in case of sustained non-scheduling of full or part capacity,” Reuters reported.
Additionally, the amendment permits the sale of power to the Indian grid if there are delays in payments, reported Reuters.
