Four Booked for Throwing Cows into River in Madhya Pradesh's Satna

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam, which prohibits the killing of cows in the state, as well as under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Madhya Pradesh police have booked four individuals after a video went viral on social media showing a group of people throwing several cows into a swollen river in Satna district, news agency PTI reported.

Preliminary reports suggest that 15 to 20 cows may have died in the incident, which took place on Tuesday (August 27) within the jurisdiction of the Nagod police station. However, the information has yet to be confirmed, according to police sources on Wednesday.

Nagod police station in-charge Ashok Pandey said, "A video showing cows being thrown by some people into the Satna river under a railway bridge near Bamhor surfaced on Tuesday evening. Taking cognisance of the video, a police team was sent to the spot to collect information, following which a case was registered."

Pandey also informed that the four individuals, identified as —Beta Bagri, Ravi Bagri, Rampal Choudhary, and Rajlu Choudhary—have been booked under relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam, which prohibits the killing of cows in the state, as well as under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, Pandey said.

Pandey informed that "As per the initial information, there were around 50 cows and 15 to 20 of them died. A rescue operation is underway" 

He added that the exact number of cows thrown into the river and the definitive death toll will be confirmed after a thorough investigation. According to Pandey, further investigation and a manhunt for the suspects are ongoing, reported PTI.
