The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the Delhi Assembly Election 2025. Voting will be conducted in a single phase on February 5, with results slated for declaration on February 8.
The current term of the Delhi Assembly, comprising 70 MLAs, ends on February 23.
In the previous assembly election of 2020, the schedule was announced on January 6, polling took place on February 8, and counting was completed on February 11.
Following the ECI’s announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into effect in Delhi and will remain in place until the conclusion of the election process.
The city’s electorate comprises 1.55 crore voters, including 83.49 lakh male and 71.74 lakh female voters. Notably, 2.08 lakh citizens will be voting for the first time in 2025.
Voting will be conducted at 13,033 polling stations spread across 2,697 locations within the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
The upcoming election is expected to see a fierce contest between the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the Congress also vying for relevance.
The BJP has focused its campaign on corruption allegations against AAP’s national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is seeking another term.
In response, AAP has shifted its strategy from large-scale rallies to padyatras (foot marches) in an effort to reinforce its grassroots "common man" image, a hallmark of its initial electoral success.
The battle for Delhi promises to be closely watched as the national capital braces for an intense political showdown.
