Under the Modi-led BJP government — which is steered by the RSS — the manner in which the Government of India has abandoned the consensus-based, independent foreign policy adopted since independence has earned it nothing but disrepute on the international stage. Consequently, India's standing within the global community has declined, and its credibility has been undermined.
The duplicity of the Modi regime regarding the Palestine issue is evident. Prior to 2014 — including during the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee — our stance was that Israel was occupying Palestinian land ; therefore, Palestine should be liberated through a two-state solution that included handing over the holy city of Jerusalem to Palestine. From the time of independence until the advent of the Modi regime, we adhered to this policy. This policy was rooted in an Indian nationalism committed to secularism and opposed to colonialism ; the policy of Non-Alignment further reinforced it. It was this very policy that led us to express solidarity with the popular struggles in South Africa and oppose colonial domination there. That is why our sympathies never lay with Israel, which, in league with imperialist America, has adopted an aggressive, expansionist stance. Although we recognized Israel's existence in 1950, that recognition did not come at the cost of the Palestinian people's destruction ; India has always championed their right to self-determination and independence. Until 2014, we maintained a deliberate distance from Israel, even while upholding diplomatic relations. India never supported Israeli aggression against Palestine in any form, nor the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.
However, in the 'New India' of the Modi era, such notions have become relics of the past. Netanyahu is now a dear friend of Mr. Modi. Our people are already struggling to repay the debt owed to their motherland ; on top of that, thanks to Modi's benevolence, the burden of a 'fatherland' has also been foisted upon them. Naturally, our motherland had to remain silent regarding the resolutions moved against this 'fatherland' in the United Nations by the global community in response to its actions. The Government of India has done precisely that, extending support to Israel through the back door by repeatedly abstaining from voting at the UN. The Sangh-camp believes in patriarchy, and the BJP’s conduct aligns with this ideology.
New defense agreements are now being forged with Israel, under which large-scale arms supplies are being provided for the genocide of Palestinians — even as many European nations have halted arms exports following the Gaza war. An Amnesty International report exposes the claim made by the 'Sangh-camp' that India still stands in solidarity with the Palestinians. On June 6, 2024, an Israeli strike on a UN-run school in Nuseirat, Gaza — where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge — killed 33 Palestinians ; fragments of 'Made in India' missiles were found at the site following the attack. Similarly, during the early days of the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran this year, an attack on a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province (southern Iran), on February 28, 2026, resulted in approximately 175 deaths—mostly schoolgirls aged 7 to 12. Reports indicate that Indian-made weapons were used in this attack as well. India is not in a position to refuse arms supplies to Israel ; notably, in May 2024, Spain blocked the Marianne Danica — a ship carrying 27 tons of explosives from Chennai to Israel — from entering its port, as countries like Spain and Canada have banned arms supplies to Israel due to its genocide of Palestinians. This incident has led to international embarrassment for India.
According to reports, 2,596 shipments were sent from India to Israel within the 26-month period from October 2023 to November 2025 — an average of 3–4 shipments daily. These exports comprised hundreds of thousands of items, including weapon parts, ammunition components, and parts for military vehicles. The goods were primarily supplied to Israeli companies — such as Elbit Systems, Rafael, and Israel Aerospace Industries — that directly provide military supplies to the Israeli armed forces. These supplies originated from companies including Munitions India Limited, Premier Explosives, Kalyani, and the Adani-Israel joint venture. It is evident that both public and private Indian companies are supplying arms to Israel, with crony capitalists like Adani reaping massive profits in the process. It is common knowledge that the Modi government's primary objective is to fill the coffers of Adani and Ambani. There is a widespread public perception that two individuals are selling off the nation's resources, while another two are acquiring them for a pittance.
The International Court of Justice has ordered a halt to the ongoing genocide in Palestine and the arrest of Netanyahu for war crimes. Against this backdrop, India's supply of weapons to Israel is wrong from both ethical and legal standpoints. Although the Modi government claims that India's relations with Israel fully align with international norms, this claim is flawed because India is bound by the provisions of the UN Genocide Convention. Under this convention, India has a responsibility not only to prevent acts of genocide but also to penalize the nations committing them. However, the exact opposite is happening in the case of Israel, with India directly complicit in the genocide of Palestinians. Therefore, both India and Israel bear equal responsibility for the ongoing genocide and war crimes in Palestine.
Emboldened by US backing, Israel’s audacity has grown to the point where it has completely reneged on the "two-state" solution and seeks to turn the entirety of Gaza into its colony. This stance contradicts the Modi government's own official position favoring the "two-state" solution. Yet, the Modi government remains unconcerned, having adopted the nature of the proverbial elephant's tusk — possessing one set of tusks for show and another for actual use. This discrepancy between declared policies and actions on the ground arises because the ties between Hindutva and Zionism are being prioritized over national interests and national pride. 'Sanghi' nationalism may readily embrace America's wealthy, sycophantic sheikhs, yet it cannot bring itself to wipe the tears of oppressed Palestinians. The Modi government's conduct in the realm of foreign policy is merely an extension of its anti-Muslim stance at home.
According to an Amnesty report, more than 73,000 people have been killed and over 173,500 injured so far in the ongoing genocide in Gaza perpetrated by Israel with US backing. The majority of these casualties are children, the elderly, and women. In the eyes of the global community, the Modi government has effectively placed India in the ranks of war criminals. For now, the Modi government has maintained complete silence regarding this Amnesty International report and is shying away from addressing the questions it raises. Yet, despite its actions, it claims to be providing humanitarian aid for the reconstruction of Palestine—this is the height of hypocrisy!
