In West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders mounting a fierce challenge to their Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) counter parts in Ram Navami celebrations. TMC’s attempt in consolidating Hindu votes ahead of the elections even meant taking part in a procession along with BJP in Siliguri. In rest of the state, it was difficult to distinguish them from BJP leaders.

The state has already announced a holiday on the occasion of Ram Navami, which was not there till only a few years back.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee posted greeting for the day on X, where she wrote, “Greetings to all on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. I appeal to maintain peace, prosperity and development for all."

In an attempt draw maximum political mileage out of Ram Navami, TMC leaders agressively took part in rallies and celebrations.

Conspicuously in North Bengal’s Siliguri, a Ram Navami rally witnessed BJP’s Darjeeling candidate Raju Bista and TMC zilla president Papiya Ghosh walking together.

TMC Ghatal MP and candidate Deepak Adhikari (Dev) was seen chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’, the video of which has hone viral on social media.

“BJP will not tell me which God’s name I will take or how I will worship. Lord Ram was not born with BJP’s flag,” said the actor turned-politician.

Another TMC’s sitting MP, Prasun Banerjee was also seen chanting the slogan. TMC’s Jadavpur candidate Saayoni Ghosh posted pictures of her Ram Navami celebrations, where she was seen sporting a saffron turban.

Partha Bhowmik, TMC candidate from Barrackpore, Jagadish Basunia, TMC candidate from Cooch Behar and many other TMC leaders participated the Ram Navami celebrations and rituals at various corners of the state.

Many party members justify this aggressive participation of TMC leaders and candidates by saying that the party did not want to offer the BJP a free space to consolidate Hindu votes and pitch its anti-Hindu narrative against Mamata and her party.
