The Election Commission of India came down heavily on BJP's Tripura East Lok Sabha candidate, Kriti Devi Debbarma for calling CPI(M) a "party of murderers".
BJP candidate’s unparliamentary remark came during her speech at an election rally in northern Tripura’s Fatikroy on Monday (April 8).
The development comes after CPI(M) Tripura state Secretary Jitendra Choudhury had lodged a complaint with Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on the issue on Tuesday. CPI(M) state head also sent video footage of the speech of Debbarma and other documents along with his complaint to the CEC.
The Returning Officer of Tripura East Lok Sabha seat Saju Vaheed in a memorandum cautioned the BJP leader.
In the written document Vaheed said "She (Debbarma) is hereby warned to abstain from making such statement in future which violates the Model Code of Conduct, otherwise appropriate action will be taken as per the provision under Model Code of Conduct issued by the Election Commission of India".
