Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (June 2) returned to Tihar jail, after his 21-day interim bail ended yesterday in a corruption case linked to the Delhi liquor policy case.
However, hours before surrendering, Kejriwal slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) meeting and alleged that the party is running fake exit polls, which predicted a landslide victory for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance.
“Exit polls for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections have come out yesterday. Take it in writing, all these exit polls are fake. One exit poll gave 33 seats to BJP in Rajasthan whereas there are only 25 seats there,” Kejriwal said, reported Hindustan Times.
The AAP supremo added, “The real issue is why they had to do a fake exit poll 3 days before the day of counting. There are several theories regarding this, one of them is that they are trying to manipulate the machines (EVMs),” quoted the newspaper.
Later, the Delhi chief minister paid a visit to the Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at the Raj Ghat, where Delhi BJP staged a protest against Kejriwal. Some members of the party were detained by the police.
In a post on X in Hindi, Kejriwal, earlier in the day, wrote, “On orders of the honourable Supreme Court, I came out from prison for election campaign for 21 days. Many thanks to the honourable Supreme Court.”
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court's office refused to entertain Kejriwal's plea seeking an extension of his interim bail.
A local court also declined to provide him relief, posting the hearing of his regular bail plea to June 5.
