CPI(M) Denounces Israeli Strike on Rafah

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of CPI(M) has strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrike at a refugee camp in Gaza's Rafah, which resulted in the deaths of 45 people, including 20 women and children.

Israel launched the attack on Rafah late Sunday (May 26), hours after Hamas unleashed a barrage of rockets at the Tel Aviv area, most of which were intercepted.

Israeli forces pressed their assault on the border town - once seen as the territory's last refuge - despite an order last week from the top UN court to halt its operation there.

In a statement issued on Tuesday (May 28), the CPI(M) said, “Despite the International Court of Justice’s directive to cease the offensive on Rafah, Israeli armed forces have continued their attacks, causing immense civilian casualties. The overall death toll in Gaza has now exceeded 36,000, with many more still trapped under rubble.”

The CPI(M) has urged all democratic and peace-loving citizens of India to protest against Israel’s actions and demand an immediate halt to the Rafah offensive. It also called for the enforcement of a ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and suffering.

The party has called upon the Narendra Modi government to take a firm stand by demanding that Israel immediately cease its military operations and agree to a ceasefire. It also urged New Delhi to stop all arms exports to Israel.
