A mural of a Mughal emperor at the Ghaziabad railway station was defaced on Friday (April 18) by a group of saffron-clad workers, who stormed the premises and blackened the image in broad daylight.

The incident took place at platform number four, where nearly a dozen individuals carrying paint, brushes, and sticks arrived around noon and vandalized the artwork in full public view, Deccan Herald reported.

While some reports identified the mural as that of Aurangzeb, others claimed it depicted Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor who played a symbolic role in the First War of Independence in 1857 and was later exiled to Rangoon by the British, where he died. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

Regardless of the historical identity, the workers shouted slogans denouncing Muslim rulers, claiming they would not tolerate images of such figures being displayed at public places, especially railway stations.

’It’s a shame that the picture of a man, who plundered the country and demolished Hindu temples, is on the wall at a railway station....we will never allow that," said Vipin Rajput, who identified himself as a member of the Hindu Raksha Dal.

Witnesses reported that neither the Railway Protection Force (RPF) nor the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel intervened to prevent the defacement.

Sources confirmed that a case has been filed against unidentified individuals, and authorities are working to identify those involved in the incident.
