A week ahead of the annual Brajmandal Jalabhishek Yatra being organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Haryana’s Nuh district, a lawyer has been booked for his Facebook post on Sunday (July 14).

The advocate, Tahir Devla, has been booked for allegedly posting “objectionable content with the intent to incite riots”, The Indian Express reported.

The VHP's annual Jalabhishek Yatra, scheduled for July 22, has raised concerns regarding law and order in the district.

An FIR against the lawyer was registered based on a complaint made by Constable Manoj Kumar at the Nuh Cybercrime police station.

The complainant alleged that Devla’s Facebook post was aimed at “spreading hostility, hurting religious sentiments, inciting the public, and disrupting the jalabhishek yatra,” The Times of India reported.

The FIR was lodged under sections 196, 299, 352, 300, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Devla's counsel, Tahir Rupariya, said that they would be seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

Last year in July, during a Hindutva procession organized by VHP and the Bajrang Dal, communal clashes erupted in Nuh. Incidents of clashes were reported in Gurugram and Sohna. The clashes claimed six lives, left dozens injured, and caused destruction of property worth crores by angry mobs.
