Tensions flared in Jaipur’s Walled City on Friday (April 25) night after controversial posters with slogans such as “Pakistan Murdabad” and other allegedly offensive content were found pasted outside the Jama Masjid in Johri Bazaar.

According to eyewitnesses, the controversy unfolded during a protest led by BJP leader and Hawamahal MLA Balmukund Acharya and his supporters against the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. In the name of denouncing terrorism, some individuals allegedly pasted provocative posters on the mosque premises, sparking outrage among community members.

The incident, which occurred around 8:30 pm, prompted a strong reaction from the local Muslim community and led to the filing of an FIR against Acharya.

One of the posters included the slogan “Who says terrorism has no religion?” alongside an image of a bearded man, which many worshippers found offensive.

Angered by the development, a group gathered near Badi Chaupad, in front of the iconic Hawa Mahal, raising slogans and displaying counter-posters. A brief verbal altercation reportedly took place between protestors and locals before authorities intervened.

The situation intensified when allegations emerged that several protestors had entered the mosque without removing their shoes during Isha Namaz.

Congress MLAs Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi arrived at the scene and played a key role in calming tensions.

Meanwhile, senior police officials, including Jaipur Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph and Additional Commissioner Rameshwar Singh, were dispatched to the area as additional forces were deployed to ensure law and order.

The Jama Masjid Committee later filed a formal complaint against MLA Balmukund Acharya at Manak Chowk police station, accusing him of inciting communal tensions.

The FIR was announced publicly via the mosque’s loudspeaker, after which the crowd dispersed peacefully.
