BJP's Raja Singh Felicitates Lawyers Representing Accused in Gauri Lankesh, Narendra Dabholkar Murder Cases

Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MLA T Raja Singh felicitated the advocates, who are defending the accused in the murder cases of journalist Gauri Lankesh and rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, at an event held in Goa’s Ponda. 

Goshamahal MLA from Telangana, attended an event tittled ‘Vaishvik Hindu Rashtra Mahotsav’ organised by a Hindutva group called Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Goa between June 24 and 30. 

During the event, the BJP leader, who himself had faced 101 cases in Hyderabad, of which 18 were communal in nature, felicitated four advocates, namely, P. Krishnamurthy, Umashankar Megundi, Divya Megundi and Avinash Masuti, who are representing the main accused in the Gauri Lankesh murder case, The News Minutes reported.

Raja Singh also felicitated advocates Prakash Salsingkar, Ghanshyam Upadhyaya, Mrunal Wyavahare Sakhare and Smita Desai who represented the accused in the Narendra Dabholkar murder case.

On September 5, 2017, Gauri was murdered outside her house in Bengaluru. The main accused of the murder, Amol Kale is a former leader of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.

Lankesh, the editor and publisher of a Bangalore weekly, the Gauri Lankesh Patrike, was an outspoken left-wing journalist.

The Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti founder, Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead on August 13, 2013 near the Omkareshwar Temple in Pune.

The two accused in the case, Sachin Andure, Sharad Kalaskar were convicted by a Special UAPA Court in Pune on May 10, 2024 and sentenced to life imprisonment along with penalty of Rs5 lakh. The three others accused in the case were acquitted.

Dabholkar was an active figure in the movements for the equality of Dalits and against India’s caste system and caste related violence.
