The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (August 26) issued a strong reprimand to actor and MP Kangana Ranaut for her comments connecting the farmers' protest with the unrest in Bangladesh, through a statement. The BJP also clarified that Kangana Ranaut's remarks do not reflect the party's views.

“BJP MP Ms Kangana Ranaut's statement on farmers' protest is not the party's stand. The Bharatiya Janata Party disagrees with the remark made by Ms Kangana Ranaut. Neither Ms. Kangana Ranaut is permitted to speak on policy issues of the BJP, nor she is authorised to do so,” the BJP’s statement read.

“The BJP has directed Ms Kangana Ranaut to not issue such statements in the future. The Bharatiya Janata Party is committed towards social harmony as per the motto of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas Aur Sabka Prayaas",” the statement added.

The BJP's disapproval followed a day after Ranaut, implied that the farmers' protest might have escalated into a Bangladesh-like crisis in India had the government not intervened decisively.

In a video reposted on her X account, Ranaut was heard saying, "Bangladesh-like anarchy could have happened in India also like in the name of Farmers protest. Outside forces are planning to destroy us with the help of insiders. If it wouldn't have been foresight of our leadership they would have succeeded."

Ranaut’s comments, made just before the Haryana assembly elections, could further inflame farmers' resentment towards the party, potentially influencing its electoral chances in agriculturally focused areas.

This isn’t the first time the Mandi MP has faced criticism over her remarks about farmers. In 2020, during the anti-farm laws protests, she sparked controversy with derogatory comments about a farmer.
