The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, May 30, dismissed reports claiming that it was organising a door-to-door campaign to distribute sindoor (vermilion) to women as part of its celebration of "Operation Sindoor".

Calling the reports “fake”, the party claimed that no such programme had been planned.

The denial comes amid the BJP’s announcement of a nationwide outreach drive, set to begin on June 9, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath for a third term last year.

While the party has not officially released details of the campaign, it has indicated that Union ministers and MPs will undertake padyatras to highlight the Centre’s key achievements, including Operation Sindoor and the decision to conduct a caste census.

Speculation had grown earlier this week after several media outlets, including Dainik Bhaskar, reported that BJP workers would distribute sindoor and pamphlets door to door to mark the operation.

Reacting to one such report, the BJP took to its official X handle to state, “This news published in Dainik Bhaskar is completely false and motivated by deceit. The Bharatiya Janata Party has not organized any program to distribute vermilion door to door.”

Over the past two weeks, Prime Minister Modi has invoked Operation Sindoor repeatedly in his election speeches, using the term as a metaphor for national pride and security.

However, critics have questioned why investigations into the Pahalgam attack — the event Operation Sindoor purportedly responded to — have yet to yield results or arrests.
