The district administration on Thursday (August 22) bulldozed a shopping complex owned by Moid Khan, a gang-rape accused whom the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged is a member of the Samajwadi Party (SP).
Bulldozers began demolishing the shopping complex in Bhadarsa town around 1:30 p.m. According to the police, the complex was vacant at the time, and a branch of a bank located there had been relocated prior to the demolition, news agency PTI reported.
Heavy security arrangements were put in place with the deployment of provincial armed constabulary and civil police to ensure that law and order is maintained, officials said.
On August 3, Moid Khan, the prime accused in the alleged gang-rape of the minor and his employee Raju Khan were arrested in connection with the case. They are accused of raping the girl over a period of two-and-a-half months and recording the assaults.
The crime came to light when a medical examination revealed the victim’s pregnancy. On the same day, a bakery owned by Khan was also demolished by the administration using bulldozer, under heavy security.
At the time, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav ignited controversy by calling for a DNA test of the accused in the gangrape case.
BJP leaders, including chief minister Yogi Adityanath, have alleged that Moid Khan is a member of the Samajwadi Party and is associated with Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad's team.
