Pakistani troops crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday (April 1) evening and attacked Indian forward posts, triggering a tense standoff along the border.

According to Army PRO Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal, the unprovoked intrusion was swiftly and effectively countered by Indian troops in a “controlled and calibrated manner,” The Indian Express reported.

Detailing the sequence of events, Bartwal stated, “On April 1, a mine blast occurred in Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across LC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and ceasefire violation by Pakistan Army.”

He added that the situation remains under control and is being closely monitored by Indian forces.

Reiterating the importance of maintaining peace along the LoC, the Army spokesperson emphasized the need to uphold the 2021 ceasefire agreement reached between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of both nations.

Sources revealed that the incident took place in the Nangi Tikri area of Krishna Ghati, a location not typically used for militant infiltration.

Tensions Mount Ahead of Amit Shah’s J&K Visit

The intrusion comes just days ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled visit to Jammu and Kashmir on April 7-8 and amid an ongoing security operation in Kathua district. Security forces and UT police have been engaged in a prolonged 11-day search for militants in the region.

So far, two militants have been killed, while operations continue in the dense forests of Ramkote to track down three others. The five-member militant group is believed to have crossed into Kathua from Pakistan last week.

The first confrontation between security forces and militants occurred on March 23 in Saniyal village, but the militants managed to escape. On March 27, four policemen were killed when militants, taking advantage of their elevated position, fired on a search party.

With heightened security measures in place, forces remain on high alert across the region to prevent further intrusions and infiltration attempts.
