Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district were engaged in a gunfight with militants on Friday (April 25), following the launch of a joint search operation in the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians dead.
The encounter erupted in the Kulnar Bazipora area after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of militants in the region, according to the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps.
Two security personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire, officials confirmed. The search operation, which began early Friday, turned into a gun battle when militants opened fire on the advancing security forces.
“On 25 Apr 2025, based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists, a Joint Search Operation was launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in general area Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established and firefight ensued,” Chinar Corps stated in a post on X.
This is the third such encounter in as many days. On Wednesday, two militants were killed after the army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Uri sector of north Kashmir.
A day later, on Thursday, a jawan was killed during a gunfight between security forces and militants in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district.
The latest spate of violence follows Tuesday’s deadly attack in Anantnag district, where heavily armed terrorists opened fire at a group of tourists gathered in a meadow near Pahalgam town.
The ambush left at least 26 people dead and several others injured, triggering a massive crackdown across the Union Territory to track down those responsible.
