Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, was cremated on December 28 at the Nigambodh Ghat crematorium in New Delhi, with full state honours.

The funeral procession began at the Congress headquarters, where party leaders, members, and supporters gathered to pay their respects.

They marched alongside Singh’s body, raising slogans such as, “Jab tak suraj chand rahega, tab tak tera naam rahega” (Your name will be remembered as long as the sun and moon exist).

Prominent dignitaries attended the last rites, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi.

The King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and Mauritius’s Foreign Minister were also present to honour Singh’s legacy.

In Bhutan, a special prayer ceremony was held at the Kuenrey of Tashichhodzong, where the fourth king and the queen mothers lit 1,000 butter lamps in his memory.

Several South Asian countries, including Bhutan, Mauritius, and Singapore, have declared periods of national mourning, with their flags flown at half-mast.

India has announced a seven-day national mourning period, during which the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country.

Additionally, the Union Home Ministry has allocated space for a memorial dedicated to Singh.
