Left student organisations have announced that they will mobilise in large numbers in New Delhi on October 10 as part of the continuing protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission’s handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Students’ Federation of India (SFI), All India Students’ Federation (AISF), All India Students’ Association (AISA), Progressive Students’ Union (PSU) and All India Students’ Bloc (AISB) said they would join hands with other organisations participating in the October 10 mobilisation. The protests have centred on demands for the resignation and prosecution of Gyanesh Kumar, withdrawal of the SIR and reforms in the Election Commission.

In a joint statement, the five organisations said the protests had expanded across the country, bringing together people from different social, cultural and political backgrounds around the defence of democratic rights.

SFI-AISF-AISA-PSU-AISB shall join the 10th October Protests in New Delhi in large numbers.

The outrage against the CEC of India is intensifying across the country each day. Delhi and other regions throughout the country have become hotspots of the ongoing protest joined by thousands everyday demanding resignation and prosecution of Gyanesh Kumar, revocation of the draconian SIR and reformation of the ECI.

Thousands irrespective of their socio-cultural backgrounds and political affiliations have come together in defense of democratic values on which the imagination of modern India was built on. However, the agitation that is in essence peaceful is almost everyday being attacked by the state machineries, and the protestors are manhandled, lathi charged, dragged, assaulted and groped by the Delhi Police. Even, journalists are not being spared.

n this context, the Left student organisations SFI, AISF, AISA, PSU and AISB are joining forces to forge a broader movement by consolidating the spirit of collectivism in the face of this fascistic onslaught.

The United left organisations will march to Jantar Mantar on 10th October, joining hands with different organisations coming together on the same demands. We appeal to all the democratic forces and individuals who uphold constitutional values to join us on making the voice of dissent louder.
