In a tragic incident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district, at least 28 people were killed, and many others are feared trapped after a bus plunged into a gorge on Monday (November 4).

The bus, carrying around 35 passengers, met with the accident in the Salt area of Marchula.

Authorities, including teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are conducting extensive rescue operations at the site.

Salt Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sanjay Kumar confirmed that some passengers have been rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment, India Today reported.

The incident was reported around 9 a.m. by individuals who fell from the bus during the accident.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those injured, according to reports from ANI

He also directed the Kumaon Commissioner to launch a magisterial inquiry into the accident.

Expressing his sorrow on X, Dhami described the accident as a deeply saddening event, emphasizing that relief efforts are in full swing.

“The district administration and SDRF teams are working swiftly to evacuate the injured and transport them to nearby health facilities. In cases of severe injuries, arrangements are in place to airlift those affected for urgent medical care,” Dhami wrote in Hindi.
