Two prominent farmer organizations, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), have claimed that medical assistance for fasting farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has been halted for the past six days.
According to their joint statement, doctors have been unable to locate his veins to administer intravenous drips as his veins are blocked, news agency PTI reported.
“Dallewal’s medical aid has been stopped for the past six days because his veins are blocked and doctors are unable to find his veins to insert (intravenous) drip,” the joint statement said.
Dallewal, the convenor of SKM (Non-Political), has been on a fast-unto-death at the Khanauri border since November 26, 2024, demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops, among other issues.
While he began receiving medical aid after the central government extended an invitation for talks on February 14, he refused to end his fast and continued to be given intravenous fluids. A team of government doctors has been stationed at the protest site in Khanauri.
However, with the worsening condition of his veins, administering fluids has become increasingly difficult. Dallewal has reiterated that he will not break his fast until the Centre concedes to the farmers' demands.
Meanwhile, both SKM (Non-Political) and KMM are gearing up for a series of 'Kisan Mahapanchayats' to mark one year of the ongoing protest.
These gatherings are scheduled to take place at Ratanpura in Rajasthan on February 11, Khanauri border on February 12, and Shambhu border on February 13.
