The flood situation in Tripura has worsened, with the death toll rising to 19 as of Friday (August 23). The latest fatalities, seven in the past 24 hours, were due to sudden landslides in South Tripura.

In response, eleven National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed from Arunachal Pradesh to assist in ongoing search and rescue operations, which have been in progress since Thursday.

Additionally, officials from various departments, including Rural Development, Water Resources, Power, PWD (Roads & Buildings), Forest, Police, Fire Service, and Paramilitary Forces, have been working tirelessly for the past four days.

The floods have impacted nearly 1.7 million people in the state, according to sources. The water levels of rivers in Tripura remain critically high, severely impacting the Gomati, South Tripura, Unakoti, and West Tripura districts.

In six districts—Dhalai, Khowai, South Tripura, West Tripura, North Tripura, and Unakoti—rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Extensive crop damage has been reported across all eight districts.

Since August 19, the district administration has established 450 relief camps to shelter over 65,400 displaced individuals.

Telecommunication services have been significantly disrupted in Gomati, South Tripura, and other areas affected by the floods.

On Friday, Tripura chief minister Manik Saha inspected the flood-affected areas of Gomati District and South Tripura.

Speaking to ANI, Saha said, "Gomati river is still flowing at 22.30 meters which is above extreme danger level of 22 meters. We have shifted all the families on the bank of Gomati river in Amarpur, Udaipur, Sonamura and surrounding villages. Request to all citizens to be alert till the water level comes down to normal level."

All railway services from Agartala have been suspended, and schools across the state have been closed until further notice.
