The West Bengal Health Department on Wednesday (August 21) announced the transfer of three top officials from the state-run R G Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, including the newly appointed Principal.

In addition to the newly appointed Principal Suhrita Pal, the Health Department also transferred the newly appointed Medical Superintendent and Vice Principal Bulbul Mukhopadhyay, along with Dr. Arunava Duta Chowdhury, head of the institute's Chest Medicine Department.

Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay has been appointed as the new Principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, while Suhrita Pal has been designated as the Principal of Barasat Government Medical College and Hospital.

According to the order, Dr. Arunabha Datta Chaudhuri, head of the Chest Medicine Department at RG Kar Hospital, has been transferred to Malda Medical College and Hospital.

The government has also cancelled Dr. Sandip Ghosh's appointment as Principal of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH), after demands from protesting junior doctors. Ghosh had been appointed Principal of CNMCH shortly after resigning from RG Kar Hospital following a rape-murder incident. Subsequently, the Calcutta High Court directed him to take leave, and he is currently being questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On Wednesday, Ghosh was interrogated for the sixth consecutive day.

Principal Secretary (Health Department) Narayan Swarup Nigam, after meeting a delegation of junior doctors, said, “As per the demands of the junior doctors, we are bringing in some changes for which we have no objection. We want normalcy to be back and healthcare services to be regularised. Security arrangements have also been enhanced,” The Indian Express reported.
