A man preparing for competitive exams was beaten to death in Delhi’s Dwarka area by an acquaintance following a dispute, police said on Thursday (July 11).

The deceased, identified as Pawan, was living in Mohan Garden in West Delhi and was preparing for Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations, the police said, news agency PTI reported.

The accused, a 21-year-old youth identified as Gaurav, has been arrested by the police.

The incident took place during the afternoon in a hotel room in Mohan Garden, the police said.

"On Thursday evening, a call regarding a quarrel was received at Mohan Garden police station. Pawan was murdered over a dispute involving a woman," a senior police officer said, quoted by PTI.

"We have registered a case of murder against the accused," the officer said.

The police informed that the perpetrator, Gaurav repeatedly hit Pawan with his 'kada' (metal bracelet) resulting in his death.
