A 31-year-old junior doctor was found dead at R G Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata on Friday (August 9), with her family alleging that she was raped and murdered. The deceased, post-graduate trainee in the chest medicine department, was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital's Emergency building.
The victim's father has accused that his daughter was raped and murdered. Her father said, “I am quite sure that my daughter was raped before she was murdered. The injury marks on her body are evident. She was found semi-naked. Efforts are on to hide the truth. I do not understand why they (hospital authorities) are delaying the investigation,” Hindustan Times reported.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and Additional CP Murlidhar Sharma along Health Secretary NS Nigam visited the scene for an inspection. According to police sources, a forensic team conducted an initial examination of the body at the location.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, with authorities hoping the results will clarify whether the young woman was sexually assaulted prior to her death.
"The body bore scratch marks on the cheeks, around her nose, lips, in between eyebrows, and on the neck. The marks reveal that there was some struggle," HT quoted a senior police officer.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reportedly reached out to the woman's parents, assuring them that appropriate action would be taken against those responsible.
