Ghaziabad police have registered an FIR against controversial priest Yati Narsinghanand Giri for allegedly spreading hate speech and making derogatory remarks against top police officials and Mahatma Gandhi, news agency PTI reported, citing officials on Saturday (March 22).
According to the complaint filed at Wave police station on Friday, the priest of Dasna Devi Temple is accused of using inflammatory language aimed at inciting religious sentiments, criminal intimidation, and disturbing public peace.
The complaint further alleges that Narsinghanand made abusive comments against the Ghaziabad police commissioner and the assistant police commissioner of Loni in a video.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari told PTI that the priest’s statements were found to be provocative and potentially disruptive to communal harmony.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter, Tiwari added.
